In reading my own work I discover that I've included the essence of things that mean a lot to me ... nature, man, continuity, polarity, and interdependence. I put my mind in neutral, let the energy flow and the piece evolves with little help from me. Intuition takes over, chance happenings happen and pretty soon a painting, drawing or sculpture has declared itself.
I'm not concerned with the duplication of visual experience but in the spontaneous expression of the feeling of that experience. I regard my work as a synthesis of seeing and thinking, expressing and reflecting. I enjoy the adventure of seeking relationships of ideas and forms to create a synthesis ... one idea leading to another, one process leading to and joining another. I gravitate to simple shapes, the recurrence of the grid and the semi-circle, the union of opposites and the use of repetitive movement.
I try to use the principles of the Zen spirit as they apply to art ... the rejection of perfection, emphasis on simplicity, freedom from rules and ideas implied rather than spelled out.
To put it simply... I see with my heart, my mind and my eye and let my hands do the talking.
